Hello everyone! Brad here with Go Enabled and week 2 of our new weekly blog. Last week I wrote about the physical and mental signs that it is time to consider electric mobility options to help you live your best. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend going back to it, maybe even before reading this article. This week I'd like to talk about options available to make use of electric mobility, possibly without having to own and take care of a scooter or chair, depending on your unique situation. There are definitely a lot of unique situations.
One of those is relatively short-term medical situations. I have known people who needed electric mobility assistance, but only needed it for a month, or two, and because of the very real need, spent $1500, $2000, or more. After the need was over, they found themselves with an expensive product that they no longer needed, and if they were lucky, they might be able to sell it for half of what they paid for it. If they had only known that rentals are available, they may have made a different choice. At Go Enabled a one-month rental is $350. That is less than $12/day! Buying is not always the best choice.
Another situation we see is people who can walk well enough to manage their own home and even short excursions to a store, but when faced with the once per year vacation, festival, or family event, it is simply more than they can comfortably handle. I am personally just a bit beyond this in my personal challenges, and therefore own a Pride Go Chair that I use around the house and outside on difficult days. However, even though I know better, I often fail to take proper care of the batteries, which significantly shortens their lifespan, and replacement is not cheap. There are a lot of folks who could live a more active lifestyle with the use of electric mobility, but in reality, would only use it maybe 4 or 5 times per year for a week here, or a weekend there. Again, it is probably not the most cost effective choice to buy a scooter or chair for $2000+ and have to be concerned with storage, cleaning, battery care, etc, when the option exists to rent only when you need it. You would be saving yourself a lot of headaches and a fair amount of money. Again, at Go Enabled, we rent mobility products by the day, weekend, week, and month. Leave the maintenance responsibilities and headaches to us! It's what we do.
As I said earlier, every person's situation is unique. Most call the challenges disabilities. We like to call them ALTERED abilities. My goal is to help people make the best decisions, mentally, physically, and financially, to live their best in the moments that matter most. As always, if you have questions and are able, please come visit us at the store, 636 North Bridge Street Elkin, NC . If your not able to come and visit or maybe you live in another state even, please visit our website, Goenabled.com and schedule a free phone or zoom consultation. Next week is a movie theme week. My article will be titled "Men In Black, When Is Your Independence Day?"
